Warcraft – Undead Huntress Pt. 2

I decided I wanted to redo the lineart of the the Undead Huntress I’ve been working on.  After I did the lineart of the character from the rear perspective while playing with Picarto, I thought it was a good chance to revisit both sets of lines for further refinement. I’m glad I took the time to do so.

I created a bold outline on the character as well. This should make certain aspects of adding color a lot easier. I anticipate that I’ll be taking an outline of the character, filling it with a solid color, and locking transparency on its layer so I have just the character’s contours to worry about with colors.

I made the outline bold around the pauldron closest to the viewer and the outline of the tabard. Helps break things up. I decided not to bold the outline of the plates on her bracers, though. For some reason, a more sheer outline seemed better for smooth surfaces like that.

Once I actually got to the darker lines, took me maybe 2-3 hours to complete.

Edit: I’ll need to redo the straps on her thigh pouches/plates. That is a bag that cannot be opened.

Tutorials I Watched Today

I created this blog to be a sort of ‘companion’ to a more collected, refined portfolio, in which I share a little bit of my insights as I puzzle things out in the creative process and show how I get there every once in a while.

It dawned on me that I also created it to motivate myself just to create more, and just spend more time doing things so that I have something to show for it. In the spirit of keeping myself motivated to maintain an active blog, I’m going to start sharing the tutorials that I’ve been watching and practicing.

I’ll post as I complete them, as if I find a beefier one (something with a run-time of 3 or more hours), I might not get through them all in one day.

I’m paying for a Lynda.com subscription so not everything I watch will be available at no cost.

Today I watched “Drawing and Painting in Photoshop – The Great Training” by Daniel Lieske. I watched this through Lynda.com.

Warcraft – Undead Huntress

I’ve owed a piece of work to a friend for a long, long time.

He’s another fellow guildmate in WOW, and he often commissions artists for illustrations of his character. I intend to provide him with a detailed reference sheet that he can provide to the artists he commissions so that they have something solid to work from.

The character is going to be in the same pose as the previous character, the orc shaman. I’ll be including both a front 3/4 and rear 3/4, as well as a headshot for this character.

Had some dead time at work. Began blocking in colors. Clipping masks will be made from these separate regions. And the boots were made separate from the leggings this time.
